Is Video Really Needed on Your Website?

A lot of web developers are intimidated by the prospect of adding video to their websites. However, the ones that don't get in on this increasingly popular bandwagon, are losing valuable visitor attention and holding themselves back from improving their websites. Video content is popular, not too difficult to make, and has become one of the most important aspects of creating a website. According to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research, one minute of video is worth 1.8 million words. To put that figure into perspective, that's the equivalent of about 3,600 ordinary web pages in their entirety. If you were able to write one web page in an hour, it would take 150 days of solid writing to get the same impact as one minute of video.

A staggering 90% of online shoppers at major retail websites said that they found videos helpful in making decisions about what to buy. As a result of this astounding figure, retail websites that include a lot of video content are often more successful than those that don't.  

Executives watch them

In a study conducted by Forbes, 75% of executives they interviewed said that they watch work-related videos to stay up-to-date on business websites at least once a week. 50% of them watch business related videos on YouTube as well, and 65% visit the marketer's website after watching a video.  

Video drives action

A call to action is a pretty typical part of an advertisement. Video advertisements have been shown to be much more effective than textual advertisements in this regard. Website visitors are 64% more likely to buy a product on an online retail website after watching a video on that website. Also, customers who watch videos stay on a website 2 minutes longer, on average.  

Improved conversion rates

Video marketing improves sales and leads by approximately 64%, according to experts. Additionally, businesses have started incorporating video into training and marketing strategies with great success.  

Preferred communication style for customers

About 65% of customers reported that they'd click through to a retail website after watching a video. 50% said that they'd look up more information after watching a video. 50% also said that they went on to make a purchase after watching a compelling video.

Video is growing

As a new, exciting, and popular form of communication, online video has a bright future. It is estimated that 74% of web traffic by 2017 will be in a video format, so it’s time to start including it in your online strategy.
