Writing Good Title Tags

There’s a lot you can do to increase your website’s search engine optimization (SEO). You can use keywords without overusing keywords. You can make your site mobile-friendly. You can update your blog on a regular basis. You can also write good title tags.  

Whether you’re using WordPress, Weebly, Wix, or some other content management system or website builder, you should have the option to create title tags. A title tag tells internet users and search engines what each individual website page is about. For example, if you google A Small Orange, you’ll notice that our title tags include Shared Hosting Plans, Business, Dedicated and Reseller.  

A good title tag accurately reflects the content on the page. Its length is about half the size of a tweet. It includes a keyword. The keyword should be used near the beginning of the tag. If you’re going to include your name or your company’s name, place it at the end of the tag. Make sure you’re not making two of the same tag.  

Keeping all of these suggestions in mind, you also want to make sure your title tag doesn’t read like a bunch of keywords stacked on top of one another. Yes, title tags are important to search engines and can determine where your page ranks in any given search, but they’re important to people too. They help determine if the site is going to be useful, or if they should move on to something else. Keep your title tags smart, but simple, and you’ll get good results.
